Keycap materials
Keycap materials.
Material decides feel, durability, colour and which legends are possible — before switches, before profile. We mould all three common keycap plastics; here is what each one is for.
PBT — dry, textured, shine-resistant; the durable everyday choice and the only material for dye-sublimation. ABS — bright, repeatable colour and the sharpest double-shot legends, but polishes to a shine over time. PC (polycarbonate) — clear and strong; the material for transparent and shine-through / RGB caps.
PBT vs ABS keycaps
The everyday decision — texture, durability, shine, sound, colour and which printing process each supports.
MaterialPolycarbonate (PC) keycaps
The clear, strong material behind transparent, translucent and shine-through RGB keycaps.
Material and process go together
Material and legend process are linked: dye-sublimation only runs on PBT; double-shot works on ABS and PBT; and PC takes legends by silk-screen, UV or laser. Pick material and process together — and pair them with the right profile — to define your set.
